Denver YMCA Gets Moving With MEND
Within the Denver YMCA community are many diverse programs, but none are as focused on nutrition and health as MEND. MEND is a simple educational program focused on making choices; in essence empowering children to understand what food does to your body, exercising for your body, and using your mind to understand the emotions behind the decisions you make. Simply put: when ideas are explained to children, if you make it fun and easy to follow and you make them responsible for their own choices, they get it – and more importantly, they’ll DO IT.
We believe this program is tailor made for public consumption. It is neither dictatorial nor strict. It is a program that stresses the importance of healthier eating and exercise and is meant to be used as a tool for the entire family.
Our video is a snapshot of MEND. We hope through the parents and instructors in our presentation you understand the core of the program and will want to learn more about it. Our intention is to use this video in our public schools and within the Colorado health care system to aid pediatricians and parents who, more than anything, need good, clear information that will work for their children to live longer, healthier lives.
Try it out

Well, this is one of the few videos that actually highlights a program, explains it very effectively, and adheres to the contest requirements. I like the informational tone of the piece. They don't try to be 'cutsey' and that lets the merits of this great program shine through. Great program and video!

Go MEND!
So great to see a program for medically obese children not focused solely on weight loss, which can be shaming, but empowers them to be healthier for themselves!
I especially appreciate the respect with which the program which treats the sensitive issues families struggle with, surrounding their overall health.
This program, and people involved (and the video itself!) deserve a standing ovation. So cool.
And the ending gets me every time :)

This video gives a great insight into what is clearly an inspiring program. I'm dead impressed by the energy and committment of the families. They seem to be enjoying it and it looks like lives are being turned around here. Nice work.

This is the best program and will benefit your child as much as it did mine.

What a great video! It handles a sensitive subject for both parent and child, showcases the instructors and inspires all of us to help ourselves, too! Good job!

I’d like to thank everyone at MEND, The Denver YMCA and those that took the time to watch our video and vote for it – we believe in this program and hope we were able to communicate how wide-reaching its benefits are. I’d also like to thank the Denver Y instructors and employees – but especially the parents who appeared on camera and shared their insights and experiences with a wider audience. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
