Following the release of the MyPlateicon, H. Butleroff-Leahy, a former Rockette and registered dietitian,launched “MYPLATE! The New Food Guide Musical Program” to teach kids abouthealthy eating at Mt. Carmel-Holy Rosary, an elementary school located in EastHarlem. Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade have been learning about how todevelop active, nutritious lifestyles in the classroom while rehearsing forButleroff-Leahy’s original, MyPlate-inspired school musical., Students learnabout making healthy choices through dance routines and participate in exercisethrough musical theater. Each dance number corresponds to a different color onMyPlate and is narrated with interesting facts about the food groups. Joined byprofessional Broadway actors, the students showcase how this unique educationalinitiative informs all students on how to nourish their minds and bodies.
