Move it to Lose It
Move It to Lose It is a unique and innovative childhood obesity prevention project of the Shri Krishna Nidhi Foundation in collaboration with the Rhythmic Arts Center that motivates children to be active through various high energy dance forms like ethnic Bhangra and Hip-Hop in addition to learning about healthy eating and proper nutrition.This event based program has now evolved into a six week after school program at two different schools. Every week the children will meet to learn about proper eating habits. They learn about the food groups, calories, portion size, variety, and just enjoying healthy food. Dance is the other segment- Who doesn't want to start tapping their feet and moving their body when a good beat comes on? This is the theme behind the physical activity. One should enjoy what they do when they exercise and that is what happens at Move It To Lose It as you can see in this video!

Thanks so much for your positive feedback. We are working on putting together an instructional video which can then be played in the afterschool setting with volunteers who can lead the kids through the dance steps. This will make it very easy to replicate across the nation.Dance and music is such a great force that most kids enjoy it from a very young age and do not necessarily think of it as exercise. Also, dance can be done indoors or outdoors.

The annual Move it to Lose it event went so well- we had nutritionist, chefs, podiatrist, dentist, physical therapist, cardiology, psychiatry, endocrinology, pediatrician, nurses, Zumba dance teacher, Bhangra teacher, and a hip hop teacher among others. We look forward to continuing this in the many years to come. We will be launching our pilot program at the James Madison school in the afterschool seting next week. Thanks to everyone's support in this initiative.
