Inwood Community Services and the LMFC Move Video Challenge
The video presentation begins with an introduction to Inwood Community Services and the needs that have to be met in the community for children.
Inwood’s Unit Director has interest in working with “Let’s Move” because childhood obesity is an epidemic in the community and an immediate solution is necessary.
Inwood connected with Master Karate Todd to implement innovative activities that will get kids moving to engage fitness and being healthy.
Master Karate Todd, cleverly combines music, colorful animation and live action to motivate children to get off the couch and exercise!
This is demonstrated with kids in the video practicing karate moves with the animated characters teaching on a large screen.
Kids learn to bow with respect and learn honor.
They also learn nutrition and green energy, while simultaneously learn to be more confident, disciplined and focused from the instructional workout DVD!
Most importantly, all of the lessons learned from MKT with children register as enjoyment for children not a philosophical teaching or lecture. They are having fun the whole time they are learning!
The video continues to show the effectiveness of getting kids active. Their enjoyment is expressed on their faces after earning their achievement certificates for active participation.
Parents who attended the event expressed happiness and satisfaction with their testimonials. Several children give testimony as well. All of the children had fun with a new experience.
The instructional DVD creates new instincts and experiences. Expanding this program by collaborating with local organizations will make a huge impact for the City of New York and connecting with larger organizations can replicate and reach kids across America!
The video ends by honoring “Let’s Move” and the web-site and the “Let’s Move” titled song is played throughout the video.

Excellent video I really think you have a winner here. You may not be in first place but this is a program that is destined for greatness.

Below are just some of the risk factors that face our adults of tomorrow. That is why I fully support your campaign for a better future. There are no healthy video programs on daytime TV therefore our politicians should force these media companies to show cartoons such as this one instead of trying to take out toys from Happy Meals. Thank you Richard for sending me your dvd and I wish you the best.

Hey Rich you should take me to the White House because I'm sure this is gonna make it. I just noticed that even if you don't win the popular vote you can still win first place!

I've been a chiropractor for over 10 years.I can't even begin to explain the damage that being 100 lbs over weight does to your body.
I've also study Martial Arts and I must say that this DVD is perfect for beginners. Kids learn self discipline which is a component that is missing in today's society.
I'm glad to say that I am a supporter of Master Karate Todd this should be in every school across the US.
Fact:
According to a survey by the National Center for Health Statistics, approximately 17 percent or 12.5 million of U.S. children and adolescents aged 2 to 19 years are obese.

Solving childhood obesity is not as simple as beginning with the child or parent. Its a matter of attacking all fronts in a cost effective manner and you are already accomplishing that. I have seen your website www.masterkaratetodd.com and I must say that I am impressed. Even though Master Karate is made for kids its a tough enough workout for even adults to handle.
I've heard some people say that you should limit screen time but that should not be the case. In fact there should be a clear distinction made between quality educational TV and non-educational TV. People tend to forget that children have free will and will rebel against their parents. This video fills video fills a very important need that we have been missing. I've participated in many events regarding childhood obesity and have yet to see anything like this. With MKT parents don't need to argue with their kids and kids learn and workout while being entertained. No other cartoon does that and that is why I agree with the above comment that this should be on day time TV.
Thank you Richard for sharing your wonderful video with me. I will continue to support you in every way I can.

Thank you everyone for supporting MKT we couldn't have made it to 10th place without all of your support. I know many of you voted virtually everyday and even when I would call, facebook or email at some really late hours you all stuck with it.
Please remember you may continue to like us on facebook and twitter.
Below is some of the information many of you had asked me to send you. I've also posted it on facebook.
What is MKT? Synopsis:

Wow its over? I had my two cousins ready to vote. Do you know how many votes you ended up with Rich? Last time I checked it was at 1900 or so?

Are you doing any other events this year? I would love to bring my nephews to it as long as its in the Tri-State area. Keep me posted bro.
Joe Devito • almost 14 years ago
Hey that's a great idea. You should consider holding an event in Central Park or at the Zoo. I'm sure they would love to have you there. I think the Junk Food Jungle and Organic Park would go well with the Bronx Zoo. If you start it up you should keep all of us posted I for one would go.

I'm really loving the vibe here. How about the YMCA why don't they also adopt your video. I also think the Lets Move site needs a mascot to entice kids as another person in the comments mentioned. Who do we have to contact for that?
Oh and Rich maybe you should join up with one of these non-profits and start a fund raiser.

You may have only made 10th place but if you look at your facebook likes and compare it to the top 9 you would be in 3 or 4th place.

On behalf of all our Afterschool program kids, parents, and staff at Inwood Community Services, I want to thank everyone who supported and voted for this video entry to bring it from 60th to 10th. Our kids are over the moon with how well we placed! Richard and the folks from Master Karate Todd were great with our kids, and the kids loved them! If all goes well, we'll be rolling out a community event where Master Karate Todd will help more kids fight their way through the junk food jungle!
You know, it's not everyday that a small not-for-profit community agency like ours gets a chance to have so much national attention placed on it. Here in NYC, our agency and several other fellow youth service providers are under attack by massive budget cuts by our Mayor. The kids you saw in this video along with another 1,200 children in Washington Heights and Inwood will not have a program in September if we don't fight these cuts, and that is exactly what we have been doing.
Whatever happens from here in this competition, our kids have learned something much more than living healthy. They've learned that they each have the power for change and to make a difference. The power to be healthier. The power that if they work hard enough, they can score in the top ten of a national competition. And if they can do that, then maybe the power to turn around the backward policies of a billionaire mayor.
Your votes and your support helped them to see that, and for that I am eternally grateful :)
